Depression is more than feeling sad. It is the way the world stops feeling like itself. Energy drops. Sleep changes. Concentration slips. Things that used to matter stop mattering. The thoughts get heavier and the path forward gets harder to see. Depression responds to evidence-based treatment, and most people who get the right treatment recover. Many recover faster than they expect.
What kinds of depression do you treat?
- Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
- Persistent Depressive Disorder (dysthymia)
- Postpartum depression
- Seasonal Affective Disorder
- Adjustment disorder with depressed mood (grief, divorce, job loss)
- Depression with co-occurring anxiety
- Depression with co-occurring substance use (treated through our integrated care model)
- Adolescent and teen depression
- Depression in older adults
What treatment modalities do you use?
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Identifies and shifts the negative thought patterns that drive the depressive cycle. The gold-standard evidence-based depression treatment.
- Behavioral Activation. Depression collapses the activities that give life meaning. Behavioral activation gradually rebuilds engagement with reinforcing activities, breaking the avoidance cycle.
- Interpersonal Therapy (IPT). For depression tied to grief, role transitions, or relationship disputes.
- EMDR. When depression has a trauma component, EMDR can reach the underlying memories and reduce the depressive load.
- Medication coordination. We do not prescribe, but we coordinate with your primary care or psychiatrist when medication is part of the treatment plan.
How long does depression counseling take?
Mild to moderate depression often responds within 12 to 20 weekly sessions of evidence-based therapy. Severe or chronic depression typically requires longer treatment, sometimes combined with medication. Your clinician will give you a realistic timeline at the end of your intake session.
Can I be in counseling while on antidepressants?
Yes. The most-supported approach for moderate-to-severe depression is the combination of evidence-based therapy plus appropriate medication, coordinated between your therapist and prescriber. We do not prescribe; we coordinate with your primary care or psychiatrist. Counseling without medication is also a valid path for many clients.
