Practicum or Internship

Practicum and internship experiences are vital components of professional training in various fields, particularly in disciplines such as counseling, psychology, social work, and education. During a practicum, students typically engage in supervised practical experiences within their chosen field, gaining hands-on exposure to real-world scenarios under the guidance of experienced professionals. This phase allows students to apply theoretical knowledge in practical settings, develop essential skills, and begin to integrate into their professional roles. Internships, on the other hand, typically occur later in a student’s academic journey and involve more extensive, immersive experiences in professional settings. Interns often take on more responsibility, working closely with clients or students while still under supervision, further refining their skills, and solidifying their understanding of their chosen profession. Both practicum and internship experiences provide invaluable opportunities for students to bridge the gap between academia and professional practice, preparing them for successful careers in their respective fields.

Associate Level Supervision

Clinical counseling supervision for licensed associate counselors involves a structured process wherein a qualified supervisor provides guidance, support, and oversight to assist these counselors in developing their clinical skills and professional identity. Supervision typically includes regular meetings during which cases are discussed, therapeutic techniques are reviewed, and ethical considerations are explored. The supervisor offers feedback and constructive criticism to enhance the counselor’s effectiveness and ensure client welfare. Through supervision, licensed associate counselors have the opportunity to reflect on their work, address challenges, and further their professional growth, ultimately contributing to their competence and confidence in providing quality mental health services. At Arkansas Counseling and Wellness Services, we have multiple supervisors available to choose from.
